Styling Tips: If you want a dress that is feminine and figure-flattering, go for a fit and flare. For boyish figures, it will give you curves. For already curvier figures, it will help to highlight your best features! It’s basically the perfect dress!
I love trying out new beauty products, but sometimes a trip to Sephora just isn’t in the budget. That’s when I like to get a little creative in the kitchen and whip up a DIY scrub or mask! I promise you’ve got everything in your pantry to make the super simple Caramel Face Scrub. It smells great and if a little bit of it happens to get on your lips, it doesn’t taste bad either!
Here’s what you’ll need to make the Caramel Face Scrub at home…
DIY Caramel Face Scrub
1 tsp. Plain Oats
1 tsp. Honey
1 tsp. Whole Milk
2 tbsp. Brown Sugar
1 – Mix all the ingredients together and apply to the face in circular motions to exfoliate the skin.
2 – Leave the mask on for 15 minutes then rinse with warm water.
3 – Follow with a mild cleanser.
* I would recommend doing this scrub right before you get in the shower. It can get a bit sticky if it gets in your hair!
I used to feel like an outfit wasn’t complete until I had (at least) one bright, bold color or pattern. But lately I’ve been drawn to the simplicity of a tone on tone look.
White is one of my favorite colors to wear for summer and white on white is even better! It’s a classic, chic look that anyone can put together.
Styling Tips: I think the first concern of any white on white look is ‘my whites don’t match’, but as I said with wearing black on black, there are simple ways to get around this. Try breaking up your whites with a belt. Either go for something neutral (like I did) or try a silver or gold metallic (perfect for evening).
Another way to avoid the ‘my whites don’t match’ feeling is to combine textures, like something lace or sheer with cotton/denim. You’ll be focused on the texture rather than the color.
You know that feeling when you find an outfit that just works? It’s something you feel great in and don’t want to take off? That is SO this jumpsuit for me! I was a bit hesitant when I first saw it on the rack at LOFT, but my love of the romper pushed me to try it on and I’m so glad I did. I decided to go for a slight 70’s-esq vibe for a night out.
Style Tips: A jumpsuit may seem like it’s only for tall model types, but I definitely don’t think that’s the case! If you’re on the shorter side (like me), high-heeled sandals are going to be your best friend with this look. For me, defining my waist really transformed this look. Find a jumpsuit that already has a defined waist or cinch it in yourself with a fab belt (Love this one for a dressier look). But the most important thing is rocking it with confidence!
I am SO excited to share this at-home gel nail polish kit review because it’s a product I am truly LOVING! I was a little hesitant at first about the price of the kits on the market (starting at about $60) and if it would truly last up to 14 days. But let me tell you, it has surpassed my expectations. I am a gel manicure convert!!
I purchased the Sephora by OPI Gelshine system (retails for $159) but was hesitant on the price so I found an only-used-once kit on eBay for half the price. While I started out with the OPI kit, I have used gel polishes from Red Carpet Manicure and gelish, so the polishes and light/kits are basically interchangeable.
The process of applying gel polish is really no different than regular nail color. There’s a base coat, 2 layers of color, then a top coat. The only thing different is the use of the 30-second LED light inbetween each coat. It doesn’t take more than 15 minutes per hand from start to finish and as soon as the top coat has cured, your nails are COMPLETELY DRY. No joke, completely dry! You won’t be able to smudge then or scratch them. It’s so amazing not to have to be worried about messing up my nails. I have to be honest, I still catch myself walking around like I have wet nails afterwards!
Keep reading to check out how it’s done…
And now for the finished product & how my nails looked after 14 days (YES, they lasted 14 days!!)…
Pretty crazy, right?!!!? Normally I wouldn’t walk around with my nails looking like this (all in the name of beauty research!) but truthfully, the only part that looks bad is the new nail growth. The rest of the polish is virtually the same as day one! This is after 2 weeks of typing, cleaning, yard work, hand washing dishes, and a million other little things that usually ruin a manicure after just a few days.
And did you notice the shine my nails still had after 14 days? Gel manicures have this amazing shine that lasts for the whole 14 days. It’s better than any top coat I’ve ever used.
I know some people have commented on the difficulties they’ve had with removing the gel polish, but my experience has been nothing but easy. I will say though, that they may have been using the soak-off removal method and to me (although I haven’t used it) it seems like a pain in the ass. Who would want to sit with their hands in a bowl of remover for 20 minutes?!?
Using wraps (these ones came with the Sephora Gel Kit) or the foil technique makes things a lot easier & you can still continue to do things around the house. I’m kinda cheap, so I like to wrap 2 or 3 nails at a time and then reuse those same wraps on the rest of my nails. Gel polish doesn’t come off like regular nail polish, so the pads are basically clean (and already soaked with remover) when I put them on the next nail.
In all honesty, this At-Home Gel Manicure Kit may be one of my best beauty purchases. The upfront cost of purchasing the kit may be a bit daunting but the initial basecoat, top coat, cleanser, LED light, and other tools will last for many, many, manicures and the continued expense will really be the purchase of new polishes. From the brands I’ve researched, prices range from $10 to $17, which is pretty much in line with any polish from Ulta or Sephora. But… this polish lasts up to 14 days!!!
Top – Target | Shorts – Lauren Conrad / Kohls | Heels – BCBGeneration | Bag | Watch
As I mentioned in this post, dressy shorts are one of my favorite things to wear during the summer. They give the slight look of a skirt with the comfort of a short and are, more often then not, nice and light weight.
There’s nothing I love more than throwing on a piece in my closet that is completely comfortable but lets me look dressed up without really having to do much! This look is just as easily paired with flat sandals instead of heels for running errands, and will still look just as appropriate.
Nothing makes me happier than getting dressed up in my cute summer sundresses and sandals but some weekend activities (like spending the day hanging out with the pup) just call for more casual attire. For these weekend days, Converse sneakers, relaxed boyfriend shorts, and a cross-body bag are my closet go-to’s.
Styling Tips: With super casual wear, I like the mix of a dressier top and a more casual bottom. It’s the perfect combination of just-relaxed-enough to be comfortable but still looks completely put together. Plus, a cute puppy makes any outfit look better!
