My husband and I have been re-decorating our bedroom and with a little rearranging of furniture, I have enough space to set up a vanity.
I’m definitely excited to have a place to lay out all my makeup and beauty supplies (and not all over the bathroom sink!), so I decided to create something that would hold my brushes and still go with the design of our bedroom.
We’ve decided to keep things neutral, using mainly black and white, with pops of gold, so my makeup brush holder (which also could be used as a vase) is a pretty little accent for the room.
Here’s the step-by-step…
1 What you’ll need:
- A glass container to hold your brushes (Michaels has a wide selection, but I got this one at TJMaxx for about $4)
- Something circular to create your dots (this is a lid from a juice container)
- Sharpie Paint Pens (I used a fine-tip pen to trace the circles and a medium-tip to fill them in. You probably would be okay to use a medium-tip for both)
- Bag of vase filler (I purchased mine at Michaels, but any craft store that carries artificial flowers should have them. My bag is 12 oz. and was the perfect amount for my container. Bag cost $5.99 but with Michaels 40% off coupon, was under $4)
2 Cut out a dot from thin-weight cardboard (I used a shoebox) or card stock and randomly trace dots around your vase with the Sharpie paint pen.
3 With the dots traced, take the medium-tip paint pen and fill them in. This is where my experience will come in handy. I started randomly filling in the dots by just coloring back and forth, but when the paint dried, the pen strokes were noticeable. To avoid noticeable strokes, start at the outer edge of the dot and slowly trace a circle until the dot is completely filled in. (Hopefully that makes sense!) Avoid turning the vase over too soon to move onto another section; the paint has a tendency to run a little if it’s not dry.
4 Because this vase will be used everyday, I decided to seal the paint with a clear acrylic gloss coating.
5 Now this is the fun part! Pour in the vase filler to the desired height and…
6 Add your brushes. Voila!
